Trillion Trees

Terms

Short, because the important promises are few and we would rather you read them.

You may use the record

Facts and sources here are published under CC BY 4.0. Copy it, republish it, build on it, use it commercially — attribute Trillion Trees and link back so a reader can check it too.

There is a public API, free and without a key. Please do not hammer it; if you need bulk access, ask and we will help.

The site design, the name and the logo are not covered by that licence.

What we promise

  • Every published fact shows its source, as readable text on the page.
  • Nothing is for sale. Nobody pays to be included, excluded, or described a particular way.
  • Corrections are free, and the old value stays visible in the history.
  • Removal requests are honoured the same day, with no review step and no questions.
  • A private individual is published only if they claim their own record.

What we do not promise

That the record is complete or correct. It is a record of what we have found and sourced, which is a small fraction of what exists. Absence from it means we have not got there — not that something does not exist, and never that it is illegitimate.

That a source is right. We show where a fact came from so you can judge it. Where a source is a self-reported figure, that is what it is; where our confidence is low the page says so. How we decide what goes in.

That being listed is an endorsement. Appearing here is not certification, accreditation, or a judgement that an organisation is doing good work. We record; we do not rate. We do not offer certification and have written down why.

If a fact about you is wrong

Correct it or remove it — both are free and neither needs a lawyer. That is a faster remedy than any complaints process, which is why it is the one we offer. Correct a record · Remove a record.
